Background: The two-year (four semesters) Executive MBA is a professional programme concerned with the ever increasingly complex professional needs of practicing managers. The Executive MBA is especially designed to meet the needs of managers who have had considerable experiences in the field but are unable to leave their work to engage in full time study.

The overall objectives of the programme are to:

1. provide managers at all levels an opportunity to acquire postgraduate education in business management and administration;
2. develop the potentials and increase the proficiency of participants in modern management techniques; and
3. develop high level manpower needed in both the public and private sectors of the economy and in all sectors of business management and administration, including financial management, production, marketing and human resource management.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

1. 1. Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) form any recognised University

      OR

   2. Bachelor’s degree with Third Class PLUS Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) from any recognised University

      OR

   3. HND in Accounting, Business Administration, Banking & Finance or related disciplines from recognised Polytechnics PLUS relevant professional qualifications e.g. ACA, ACCA, ACII, ACIS, ACS, AMNIM, animn, arpa, ACIB, ACIPM, ACTI, CNA

      OR

   4. HND in other disciplines from recognised Polytechnics PLUS Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Administration, Finance and Management disciplines form any recognised University

      OR

   5. Professional qualification e.g. ACA, ACCA, ACII, ACIS, ACS, AMNIM, animn, arpa, ACIB, ACIPM, ACTI, CAN PLUS five (5) years work experience in a managerial position

EXECUTIVE MASTER OF GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS)

Background: In the last three or four decades, issues relating to land and environmental resources management for sustainable development have globally, attracted a lot of interest. Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing techniques offer a way out for timely environmental monitoring and rational decision-making at various levels and in all areas of life. The knowledge of the geography of a country (or a state), which is normally produced in map form, is essential to government in order to provide services effectively and efficiently; it is also needed to attract investment because knowing ‘where’ is ‘what’, leads to rational decision making and development. The practical relevance of GIS in many areas of human endeavour such as infrastructure development, agriculture, land administration, urban development, water resources management, human security, and land use changes is already well established.

However, because of its specialty and relative newness, there is still a dearth of professionals who can provide GIS services in Nigeria and in other parts of Africa. In addition, because of rapid advances in technology, leading to new innovations within a cycle of maximum of five years, organisations must re-train their staff once in at least every five years to keep abreast with technological development in Geo-ICT. This therefore means that education and training institutions must provide the necessary platform and facilities to meet these enormous capacity building challenges for example, through provision of short courses and executive programmes.

This Executive Master of GIS programme is intended to help rectify the problem. Graduates of the programmes would be able to fill existing gaps in public places. They should also be able to set up consultancy units on their own to tap the vastly expanding GIS markets in Nigeria and in the rest of Africa.

Objectives

The broad objectives of the programme are to:

1. produce high grade professionals in Geographic Information System for national development;
2. enhance capacity and capability for research development in Geospatial Information Science;
3. equip graduates of relevant disciplines with adequate technical and management capabilities in geospatial information science for self-employment;

Admission Requirements

An applicant for admission to the programme shall be:

1. a graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in any of the following disciplines: Surveying & Geoinformatics, Sciences, EDM, Engineering/Technology, Geography, Demography & Social Statistics, and others who may require expertise in Geo-Information Science;
2. a graduate of any other approved University; or
3. a person who holds professional qualifications recognized by the Senate of the University.
4. Admission may depend on satisfactory performance at the admission test administered by the Department/CDL/University.

The applicant shall normally possess a minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) Honours degree in to be eligible for admission. However, candidates with third class but with at least 3 years post qualification experience may be considered under certain conditions which include:

1. possession of postgraduate diploma degree in Remote Sensing and GIS or any cognate discipline; and/or
2. possession of professional qualifications/membership of such institutes as Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON), Town Planning Registration Council of Nigeria, Estate Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria, Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Nigerian Institute of Architects, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), and such other recognized professional institutes. Entry requirements into any of these institutes must satisfy those for admission into first degree programmes of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
3. candidate must meet the screening requirements of the Postgraduate College

Duration

The programme shall last a minimum of two academic sessions covering four contact periods of intensive course-work leading to the writing of a Long Essay.

MASTER OF REAL ESTATE BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Background: The philosophy of the Obafemi Awolowo University Master of Real Estate Business Management programme is to develop highly skilled professionals and intellectually well prepared, fully sharpened, well-motivated and highly focused top level manpower in the wide and intensive field of real estate business and management. The programme will not only ensure maximum development of individual candidate, but lead those whose developmental potentials qualified for movement to a higher level of development within an organization to be in a position to do so. The programme is targeted at professionals in the public service, corporate, institutional and international/multinational organizations.

Objectives

The aim of the Master of Real Estate Business Management degree programme is to provide opportunities for real estate practitioners to gain advanced knowledge and acquire necessary skills that are essential not only for effective real estate decision making but also improved their professional and managerial performance. The specific objectives of the programme are to:

1. provide high-level manpower who are technically and intellectually competent to work in organisations, with substantial real estate holdings, as real estate managers;
2. develop and enhance the professional competence of practitioners in real estate business management and enhance their knowledge of the core role of real estate in businesses and organisations;
3. provide high-level manpower who are capable of handling policy matters relating to the real estate industry in Nigeria; and
4. acquaint real estate professionals with the recent advances and analytical tools that are critical for management, decision making and problem solving roles.

Admission Requirements

Admission into the Master of Real Estate Business Management Degree Programme is open to:

1. Graduates of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife or of any other approved University who possess not lower than a Second Class (Honour) Lower Division in Estate Management/Land Economy and related programme;
2. Candidates with First degree in Accounting, Agricultural Economics, Banking and Finance, Economics, Engineering, Law, Marketing, Psychology and other professions in the Built Environment as well as other allied disciplines who possess not lower than a Second Class (Honours) Lower Division degree.
3. Candidates with a Postgraduate Diploma in Estate Management or Land Economy or related field with a pass at credit level (i.e. 3.0 of 5.0 point scale), or 50% on weighted percentage average; and
4. Candidates with a Third Class Honours degree in Estate Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife but who have had not less than three (3) years post qualification experience.
5. Candidates with a minimum of Lower Credit in Higher National Diploma (HND) in Estate Management or Land Economy or related field or other allied discipline and who had acquired the professional registration of the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria.

Notwithstanding Section D (i) to (v) above;

1. Candidates seeking admission into the Master of Real Estate Business Management Programme will be expected to satisfy the general regulations governing graduate programmes of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
2. Intending applicants shall normally have three years post-graduation work experience, preferably in a managerial or supervisory capacity.

Duration

The course of study for a Master of Real Estate Business Management programme shall run for a period of four (4) semesters of fifteen (15) weeks each.
